Supporting Sustainable Haulage in East Yorkshire

As part of our commitment to innovation and sustainable haulage in East Yorkshire, we at Nigel Rice Transport & Storage are excited to announce the arrival of our first electric truck, the Renault Trucks E-Tech D16 4×2. This is a major milestone for our Beverley-based haulage and storage company.

This investment is a key part of our ongoing strategy to reduce emissions and future-proof our fleet for greener logistics.

Trialling Electric Trucks in Yorkshire: A Smart, Sustainable Move

Our journey into electric haulage began with a three-month trial through the Vertellus EV Discovery Programme, supported by Thompson Commercials – a trusted Renault Trucks dealer.

“Thompson Commercials provided outstanding support throughout the process,” said Chris Rice, Managing Director at Nigel Rice Transport & Storage. “Their team made the decision to go electric an easy one.”

To support the trial, a DC Zenobē EV charger was installed at our depot. The trial gave us the chance to see how an electric HGV could integrate into our fleet operations, especially in local distribution work.

An Electric Vehicle Built for Regional & Urban Distribution

Our new Renault E-Tech D16 was expertly bodied by Martin Williams (Hull), fitted with an 8-metre curtainsider body and a tuckaway tail lift. The truck’s distinctive electric livery, designed by Matt Vinyl Graphics, highlights our commitment to eco-friendly logistics.

Powered by a 265kWh battery, the truck delivers up to 185kW (248hp) and is well-suited for our local Palletline deliveries, covering around 75 miles daily and recharging overnight at our Beverley site.

With charging capabilities ranging from 22kW to 150kW, it offers flexibility and minimal downtime, making it ideal for regional operations across East Yorkshire.

Electric Haulage: Future Fleet Plans

We’ve already placed an order for a second electric vehicle – a Renault Trucks E-Tech Master with a curtainsider body – as we continue our shift towards zero-emission transport solutions.

We’re actively reviewing additional EV options as part of our fleet renewal strategy, ensuring we stay ahead in an evolving industry.
