Transport and logistics are constantly changing, so it is vitally important to keep up to date with the latest trends. The biggest change in our industry has been the delivery of goods. With Amazon announcing Prime Air, a fascinating new program that delivers packages by drone to shoppers within 30 minutes of placing their order.
Uber has sent out the very first self-drive truck. Delivering 500,000 cans of beer from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs. Another exciting development was created by Local Motors an Arizona based company, that set up a driverless shuttlebus made by 3D printers. This is now being used just outside of Washington DC on the streets of a shopping district. The company are also currently looking into using the same design to produce driverless commercial cargo vehicles.
As it stands these types of transport distributions are either priced at a very high value or only being trialled. This is why most haulage contractors aren’t ready for such large changes yet; from changing couriers, to drones, or even self-drive transport trucks.
